Sandra M. Nettina, MSN, APRN, BC, ANP
Medscape Nurses: Topics in Advanced Practice Nursing eJournal

Editor, Medscape’s Topics in Advanced Practice Nursing ejournal, From 2001
Book Editor, Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice, 1996, 2001, 2006

Prior Editor’s Position: Primary Care Practice, 1997-1999

Years as Editor: Since 1996

Years in INANE: Since 1996

Other Position: Nurse Practitioner, Columbia Medical Practice Columbia, MD
Adjunct Clinical Instructor, Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing

Accomplishment: I created the bimonthly journal, Primary Care Practice, from scratch, then the Medscape ejournal from scratch.

Best: Making my own schedule and pulling knowledge and resources from my entire career as a nurse.

Worst: Authors who don’t know how to reference

Amusing: People are always coming up with stories about why they haven’t met a deadline. Years ago, before the computer was routine, an author said that her manuscript was in the car, on the way to a picnic and there was a minor car accident. The potato salad landed all over her manuscript. Therefore, she couldn’t salvage any of it (the manuscript).

3 words: Organized, enthusiastic, hard-working

Strangest request: Many have requested that we consider something for publication that is being considered or has been accepted elsewhere. I can’t see why people don’t get the copyright thing.

If not editor?: I would love to volunteer more

Relax?: I love being outside doing anything—gardening, horseback riding, mucking out the barn, running
