Back to Who's Who Index

Diana J. Mason, RN, PhD, FAAN
American Journal of Nursing (AJN)

Editor-in-Chief, American Journal of Nursing (AJN), Start 11/98

Years as Editor: Since 1998

Years in INANE: Since 1998

Other position: Professor, Lienhard School of Nursing, Pace University
Co-producer and Moderator, Healthstyles (weekly radio program) WBAL, New York City

Accomplishment: Transforming AJN—largest circulating nursing journal in the world, nursing journal most cited in the public media, and winner of numerous editorial and dissemination awards, including Clarion Award for Best Overall External Magazine (circulation 100,000 to 500,000) from the Association for Women in Communications.

Best: Opportunity to raise important issues that the profession needs to consider and debate.

Worst: Rejecting papers.

3 words: Persevering, leading, visionary

Strangest request: Just prior to its publication, we discovered that 2/3rds of an accepted paper was plagiarized from a government web site. When I called the author to tell her we were withdrawing her paper, she asked if we couldn’t just drop the plagiarized section and publish her paper without it. I told her that there would be nothing left if we cut out the plagiarized sections.
