WHO'S WHO OF NURSING EDITORS
![]() |
Candy Goulette, MS Senior Regional Editor, ADVANCE for Nurses, began August 1, 2004 Prior Editor’s Position: Managing Editor, RealLife Healthcare magazine (Sacramento Bee) Years as Editor: Since 1988 Years in INANE: Since 2006 Accomplishment: An Associate Press award for the best newspaper in our class size Best: Having the opportunity to work with so many wonderful nurses, ferreting out stories, encouraging and mentoring writers. Worst: Having to turn down stories that might be too controversial, or that take sides in a potentially divisive issue, when the writer is passionate about them. Also, finding out that a great nurse is not a great writer, and to edit them out of the story. Amusing: Years ago, I missed the "l" in a story. In 60 point headline font, a facility’s name was changed to "pubic" instead of "public". The chief of staff sent me a stuffed bunny (the pubic hare) to commemorate the event, which I will never forget. 3 words: Passionate, enthusiastic and credible (the one that honors me most) Strangest request: "I’d like complete creative control," she said, "including the final decision on font, colors, and whatever art is used with the story. I’d also like control over where the story is placed in the magazine." I said no. If not editor?: Be at the bedside. If I were independently wealthy, I’d travel, go back to school to get a DNSc — or maybe teach. Relax?: Not very well! I sew and love to dig in my garden. When things are really stressful, I like to hang clothes outside (very cathartic). But I usually move at a fast clip unless I’m asleep. |
