Local Transportation
In towns such as Rome and Milan, there is an undergroud, in Padua there are buses, in Venice the buses are boats (vaporetti); in Venice buy a Venice card which is convenient to travel around.

Traveling around
To travel around Italy trains are the most comfortable, frequent and reasonably priced means of transport. Speed trains from Padua to Rome take 4 hours, to Florence about 2 and half hours. You can go & come back in a day if you like. If you plan to travel a lot, perhaps it can be convenient to buy a tourist train passi n the US (please inquire). Venice is 30' by train from Padua (a return ticket is Euro 5.00); Verona is 50' by train from Padua.

Thanks to the development of various lowcost airlines, domestic flights have become cheaper in Italy, though to get away with a bargain you need to book a lot in advance.

You can arrange your journey to and from the airport by looking at the airport websites. The closest airports to Padua are Venice Marco Polo and Treviso airport, both of these airports are well connected with regular buses. From Venice Marco Polo there are buses connecting you directly to Abano, for timetables visit:
